This is all anecdotal but I think a fun share. I agree about onboarding and training being a bit more difficult. Learning from people that have been doing a job for years or decades is definitely easier in person. No one wants to sit on a Teams meeting all day watching someone screenshare and info dump. My cats will come see what I’m making for lunch and if they’re going to get any. After they’ve either received their serving of turkey or chicken they go take a nap elsewhere.

I also get the vibe from the stuff I read that there’s an element of soft lay-offs. Thinning the headcount (you’ve read of some companies being on a hiring frenzy just after covid).
And another part of filtering to keep the sort of people that put up with having their chain jerked. Can’t have people working for you that have the confidence or financial safety net to tell you to go fuck off when you demand too much.

I feel the same as you on all your points, except I have lunch with my cats instead 😉

That’s exactly how I lost my last job, there’s no way they needed to end WFH other than to lower the employee count.
