“Star Trek: Picard: Firewall” Review by Warpfactortrek.com
Tags:David Mack, New Book Review, Warpfactortrek.com
Warpfactortrek.com has added a new review for David Mack‘s “Star Trek: Picard: Firewall”:
David Mack’s new novel, Firewall, released this week, puts its focus on Seven of Nine in the years between USS Voyager’s return to Earth and the time fans saw her wonderfully resurrected on Star Trek: Picard. It is a fascinating time frame to examine. Of all the veteran characters that Star Trek: Picard reintroduced, there was perhaps none that seemed so fundamentally changed as Seven. The story of what happened to her in those interweaving years was ripe for the telling, and Mack, for the most part, does a great job of it. He has convincingly answered many of my questions about a favorite character.

“Star Trek: Defiant #12” Review by Trekcentral.net

Trekcentral.net has added a new review for Christopher Cantwell‘s “Star Trek: Defiant #12”:
It’s the beginning of a new arc for the series with Star Trek: Defiant #12, which is out today from IDW Publishing. Following the end of Another Piece of the Action, the crew is in a bit of disarray. They planned that after dropping off the miscellaneous characters they’d collected, the team would disband. However, it would appear that fate has something else in store for Worf and the crew of the USS Defiant. This is the beginning of a whole new chapter, kicking off the third arc Hell is Only a Word.

“Star Trek: Picard: Firewall” Review by Atboundarysedge.com
Tags:Atboundarysedge.com, David Mack, New Book Review
Atboundarysedge.com has added a new review for David Mack‘s “Star Trek: Picard: Firewall”:
Star Trek: Picard may have come to an end after three seasons, but in literature the voyage carries on. David Mack’s contribution to this canon is Firewall, which most closely ties in to the events of Picard‘s first (and best) season. More than that, however, it also serves as a successor to Voyager, establishing what Janeway and Seven of Nine did upon returning to the Alpha Quadrant. I’d even argue it’s a better Voyager novel than it is a Picard one.

With a plethora of additional rules variations to embrace the emotional toil of being thrust into a war, this campaign gives you the tools to build exciting narratives during the war.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Star Trek: Voyager, Pocket Books decided to release a trilogy of novels set during the series’ run. The first novel of the String Theory trilogy, Cohesion, establishes that this story is set in the period between seasons four and five. This was an ideal place to set the trilogy, as it was one of the few season breaks of Voyager to not feature a cliffhanger.

On the face of it, David Mack’s Firewall may be just the latest in a long line of rip-roaring adventures set in the Star Trek universe we all know and love … but it’s also a lot more than that. Previews of this week’s comics: “Star Trek: Defiant #12” and “Star Trek: Picard’s Academy #6”
IDW has graciously given me permission to post some preview images of their upcoming comics and while this one is a couple days late, I’m working out my process and I think I have it nailed down. These actually came out yesterday, but if this were done earlier this week like I had planned, here’s what you’d see:
Original Star Trek: Defiant writer-artist duo Christopher Cantwell and Ángel Unzueta delve into the sci-fi horror genre in arc three of the fan-favorite series! Eager to move past the unofficial bounty-hunting mission assigned to them by Starfleet, disgraced former ambassador and Starfleet legend, Worf, and his rogue crew make way for Starbase 99, a run-down remnant of the Dominion War, to complete their fugitive drop-off. The clandestine assignment has left them disillusioned with Starfleet and with one another, but a surprise awaits the Defiant crew, threatening to tear the crew apart even further-literally.
Star Trek: Picard’s Academy #6
It’s do-or-die for Picard and cadets in the finale of Picard’s Academy! Romulans storm the ship while Starfleet remains out of reach and potentially unaware of the threat headed their way, but the cadets have finally come to an agreement, electing Jean-Luc to the captain’s chair. They’re finally willing to follow Picard’s lead, and Picard is finally willing to acknowledge their feedback-now acting as a proper crew. But is it too late? Will Picard fail his crewmates once again and, worse yet, see the start of an interstellar war? So much for graduating early!

Star Trek: Picard: The Art and Making of the Series offers a captivating journey into the heart of one of science fiction’s most iconic characters. The book delves into each season-long narrative with meticulous detail, unveiling the evolution of Picard’s character as he navigates challenges both personal and galactic. From facing off against familiar foes like the Borg to taking command of a new starship, Picard’s journey is rich with complexity and emotion.

Dailystartreknews.com has added a new review for Collin Kelly‘s “Star Trek #17”:
The return of Harry Kim in this arc has been a notable highlight, particularly with the reunion of the Delta Flyers alongside Tom Paris. However, Harry’s changed demeanor and his differing actions from the Theseus crew add an intriguing dynamic to the storyline. His choice to destroy the Tzenkethi shipyard, despite its tactical repercussions and the impending collapse of the Tzenkethi home world, sets the stage for a moral dilemma that propels the narrative forward.

Trekcentral.net has added a new review for Sam Maggs‘s “Star Trek: Picard’s Academy #6”:
It’s the final chance for Cadet Picard to pass his exam in Star Trek: Picard’s Academy #6, which is out now from IDW Publishing. Finally ready to work with others, and value the input of those around him, can he beat a seemingly impossible task? An invading force of rogue holodeck-projected Romulans is close to seizing control of the test ship. The stakes are high, with Picard’s ability to graduate early on the line. This issue is billed as the final part of the story, so hopefully it’s able to come to a satisfying conclusion.

Trekcentral.net has added a new review for Collin Kelly‘s “Star Trek #17”:
Galactic war is imminent and seemingly inevitable. Romulan, Cardassian, and Federation forces are struggling for control in Star Trek #17, out today from IDW Publishing. Over the course of the Savage World of Glass and Bone arc, Captain Sisko and the USS Theseus have fallen out of favor with the warmongering Tzenkethi. Evidently, however, the worst is yet to come. The one and only course of action Starfleet is willing to authorize is far from a model solution.

Firstly, I have to say the the author does a good job of presenting the crew in a manner which was recognisable from how they appeared on the series. If I had to be picky about the characters then it was because they kept being referred to by multiple different names. For example, Number One is also called Una, Una Chin-Riley or just Chin-Riley throughout the novel which can slow you down as your mind catches up and remembers that is the same person. I appreciate, they are all acceptable names but I wish we could just stick with one.

In today’s episode, Robin Lefler learns her mother is still alive, but first Soleta has to finish checking out the situation on Zondar, and meanwhile Selar is preggers, and she and Burgoyne agree the fun times should end there, so why does that leave Selar feeling so empty? But the warp core also has a bun in the oven, and also Shelby swears she’s not in love, Robin lands in the friend zone, Mark McHenry feels used, and—wait, what? I’m already out of room for the intro paragraph? All this and more in Fire on High, the book that doesn’t forget its Southern hospitality.

Level 251: Erik Desiderio (Last Epoch In Concert)
A little more than two years ago, Erik Desiderio was on Level to talk about music he’d written for Last Epoch, which was in early access at the time.
Erik is back to talk about all of the music he’s written for the game since we spoke in 2022. Also, Last Epoch is about to get its official release, and the Game Music Ensemble of UCLA is going to play Erik’s music from the game live, with Erik conducting.
This gave us many reasons to chat! That concert, by the way, will apparently be streamed? Unsure, check here and here! The concert is on Saturday, February 24th at 7 PM PST (UTC-8).
