Happy 2024 Birthday to Mark Allen!
Happy birthday to Mark Allen!
Mark Allen Shepherd is an actor and artist from Rockville Centre, New York who is best known for his portrayal of the Lurian freighter captain Morn in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Throughout the seven year run of Deep Space Nine, Shepherd never received official credit and appeared in other background roles as well. He also portrayed Morn in episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager.
Shepherd received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island which he attended between 1979 and 1984. After graduation, he moved to Southern California and studied at the California Institute of the Arts, focusing on music, film, theater, performance, and interdisciplinary arts between 1986 and 1990.
Shepherd is also an accomplished artist, and he has created numerous abstract impressionist paintings, mixing media types into photo mosaics. In his artwork, he likes exploring abstract concepts as energy, consciousness, perception, and multi-dimensionality. Indeed, twenty-three of his works have been used as set dressing on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, including paintings in the quarters of Kira Nerys, Julian Bashir, Jadzia Dax, and Jake Sisko.

Level 248: Jon Everist (The Lamplighters League)
Composer Jon Everist‘s music for The Lamplighters League is a great blend of noir and adventure. The soundtrack paints such a perfect picture of the vibe of the game (which is a turn-based tactics game).
So many wonderful solos and soloists, with an orchestra recorded live at Abbey Road Studios, and they all sound fantastic! Also, I swear I know what a trombone sounds like. Or I used to think I did.

“Star Trek: The Autobiography of Benjamin Sisko” Review by Tor.com
Tags:Derek Tyler Attico, New Book Review, tor.com
Tor.com has added a new review for Derek Tyler Attico‘s “Star Trek: The Autobiography of Benjamin Sisko”:
I’ve never been bashful about my love of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I’ve used it to talk about the “alien-ness” of various Trek series, looked back at the DS9 young adult novels, and wrote forty-one entries on the DS9 relaunch stories that continued the crew’s adventures well past the series finale. In turn, this led to a discussion of the grand climax of the unified Trek “Litverse” with the Coda trilogy, which featured several key DS9 characters.

Trekcentral.net has added a new review for Christopher Cantwell‘s “Star Trek: Defiant #9”:
The adventures of Worf and the crew of the USS Defiant continue this month in Star Trek: Defiant #9 out now from IDW Publishing! Last month Worf & crew set out on the hunt for a rather ragtag bunch of classic Star Trek villains. This time, the crew is chasing the reformed Borg drone known as Hugh. His appearances in The Next Generation were among the best episodes of the series, so fingers crossed that Defiant can hold a candle to it!

Myconfinedspace.com has added a new review for George Takei and Justin Eisinger and Steven Scott‘s “They Called Us Enemy”:
I was able to read this in just a single 2 or 3 hour sitting, though I have plans to go back through it and letting the art work soak in. While it wasn’t a difficult book to read, it was still a difficult story to hear. We had done this a few time prior to the internment of the Japanese, previously with Native Americans and African Americans, and while there are vast differences among the three in a comparison, the apparent root of all three is solely based on historical genetics and what continent they came from and their perceived value to the society in power. We nearly stumbled over this same thing during TFG’s campaign of terror from 2016-2020 and desperately need more to prevent it from happening again.

Happy birthday to David A. McIntee!
David A. McIntee is a Scottish author. He is fairly well known in the United Kingdom for writing a number of Doctor Who novels and audio episodes.
In 2000, he wrote Delta Quadrant, a Star Trek: Voyager episode guide, for Virgin Books. This unofficial release caused issues with Pocket Books editor John Ordover, who scrapped a Voyager novel McIntee had sold to the publisher after seeing an advert for the publication.
In 2007, McIntee wrote the story “On the Spot” in the Pocket Books Star Trek: The Next Generation short story collection, The Sky’s the Limit. His short story “Reservoir Ferengi” features in the 2010 anthology, Seven Deadly Sins.
McIntee’s first full-length Star Trek novel, Indistinguishable from Magic, was released in 2011.
He has also contributed to various magazines, including Star Trek Communicator and Star Trek Magazine.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The High Country” Review by Shastrix.com
Tags:John Jackson Miller, New Book Review, Shastrix.com
Shastrix.com has added a new review for John Jackson Miller‘s “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The High Country”:
The first Strange New Worlds book feels superficially like a lot of the old novels – with a planet of the week to visit and find out what’s going on, with a civilisation who appear to be from Earth’s history. In this way, it follows the pitch perfectly – a modern take on the original idea of Star Trek.

A Star Trek-themed spooky season celebration continues in Star Trek: Holo-Ween Issue #2, out now from IDW Publishing! Set in the middle of the golden era of The Next Generation, the series sees Captain Picard face off against Redjac. It’s an interesting choice for a villain, one that harkens back to the Original Series rematches from early TNG like “The Naked Now”. Thankfully so far this one’s been infinitely better, and writer Christopher Sequeira is more than up to the task.

DEEP SPACE WAIFU
A surprisingly competent bullet hell game with a lurid concept, but it fails to directly deliver on the lurid part of it’s promise, at least until you manually add an empty file to the installation directory to “patch” the nudity back into the game, This of course is obscene in how they hide their obscenity and is offensive that you’d have to go through all those hoops just to actually see what you paid to see.
I’d recommend it, just as long as you know you have to do some minor hacking to get what you want from the game. I played about 5 hours and was able to get all the achievements, of which there are 69 of them, giggity.

“Star Trek: Discovery: Wonderlands” Review by Myconfinedspace.com
Tags:My[confined]space, New Book Review, Una McCormack
Myconfinedspace.com has added a new review for Una McCormack‘s “Star Trek: Discovery: Wonderlands”:
Starts off slow and in a manner that’s exceptionally similar to something that actually happened on the TV show, I think I need to rewatch season 4 in order to properly contextualize the meetings that Burnham has. I say it starts slow, but it definitely doesn’t stay that way, as this is more like a series of connected short stories about Burnham’s adventures in the far, far future, the depths of despair she fell to, and the struggles she faced without any of the mainstays of her previous life as a Commander in Starfleet. The final confrontation is telegraphed well enough that I wasn’t shocked when it happened, but it wasn’t so far out that I became impatient waiting for it to happen. If you’re a Disco fan, this is a great ‘fill in the blanks’ story written by one of the better Trek authors.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The High Country” Review by Myconfinedspace.com
Tags:John Jackson Miller, My[confined]space, New Book Review
Myconfinedspace.com has added a new review for John Jackson Miller‘s “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The High Country”:
This is is one of the best Trek books that I’ve read in a while, with no offense intended towards the other ones that have come and gone. I’m somewhat surprised that I had such a great experience with it, as I recently read “Rogue Elements” and hated nearly everything about it, and both of them were by John Jackson Miller. I knew that I liked his writing though, as Rogue Elements wasn’t a poorly written book, I just thought the entire premise was ridiculous and it used some Trek elements that I’ve always thought were among the most silly in the franchise. Both books serve as quasi-sequels to television episodes, with Rogue Elements featuring the goofy mobsters first introduced in the original series episode “A Piece of the Action”, and High Country following up on some loose threads from Star Trek: Enterprise’s cowboy episode “North Star”.

Happy 2023 Birthday to Nicholas Meyer!
Happy birthday to Nicholas Meyer!
Nicholas Meyer directed Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. He wrote the screenplays for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and Star Trek VI. Though never credited for his efforts, Meyer rewrote much of the screenplay for The Wrath of Khan by combining several elements from earlier drafts. He is also largely responsible for the nautical influence that pervades The Wrath of Khan and its sequels, from the military essence of the red-jacket uniforms to the more heated and dramatic character of the battle sequences.
