“Star Trek: Defiant #11” Review by Trekcentral.net
Tags:Christopher Cantwell, New Book Review, Trekcentral.net
Trekcentral.net has added a new review for Christopher Cantwell‘s “Star Trek: Defiant #11”:
The Star Trek: Defiant arc concludes in Star Trek: Defiant #11, which is out now from IDW Publishing. The Another Piece of the Action arc has been an interesting four-part story. On one hand, having this crew become an insane clandestine organization has been great fun. However, on the other, we’ve been touching obscure characters, and the story hasn’t been as clearly defined as the previous arc.

“Star Trek: Picard: No Man’s Land” Adapted to paperback novel!
Star Trek: No Man’s Land picks up right after the action-packed season one conclusion of Star Trek: Picard. While Raffi and Seven of Nine are enjoying some much-needed R&R in Raffi’s remote hideaway, their downtime is interrupted by an urgent cry for help: a distant, beleaguered planet has enlisted the Fenris Rangers to save an embattled evacuation effort. As Raffi and Seven team up to rescue a mysteriously ageless professor whose infinity-shaped talisman has placed him in the deadly sights of a vicious Romulan warlord, they take tentative steps to explore the attraction depicted in the final moments of Picard season one.
Star Trek: No Man’s Land is a rich, fully dramatized Star Trek: Picard adventure as Michelle Hurd and Jeri Ryan pick up their respective characters once more. Written for audio by Kirsten Beyer, a cocreator, writer, and producer on the hit Paramount+ series Star Trek: Picard, and Mike Johnson, a veteran contributor to the Star Trek comic books publishing program, this audio original offers consummate Star Trek storytelling brilliantly reimagined for the audio medium.
In addition to riveting performances from Hurd and Ryan exploring new layers of Raffi and Seven’s relationship, Star Trek: No Man’s Land features a full cast of actors playing all-new characters in the Star Trek: Picard universe, including Fred Tatasciore, Jack Cutmore-Scott, John Kassir, Chris Andrew Ciulla, Lisa Flanagan, Gibson Frazier, Lameece Issaq, Natalie Naudus, Xe Sands, and Emily Woo Zeller, and is presented in a soundscape crackling with exclusive Star Trek sound effects. Drawing listeners into a dramatic, immersive narrative experience that is at once both instantly familiar and spectacularly new, Star Trek: No Man’s Land goes boldly where no audio has gone before as fans new and old clamor to discover what happens next.
Previously released as an audio drama, “No Man’s Land” is being released November 5th, 2024 as a 112 page paperback novel. This isn’t the normal order that books are released in, but I’m happy it’s happening!

“Star Trek: The Empty Chair” Review by Atboundarysedge.com
Tags:Atboundarysedge.com, Diane Duane, New Book Review
Atboundarysedge.com has added a new review for Diane Duane‘s “Star Trek: The Empty Chair”:
2006 was a strange time for Star Trek. It was the fortieth anniversary of the show, but the show was not currently on air. Enterprise had only recently been cancelled, and the next onscreen adventure would not appear until 2009. Star Trek was, for all intents and purposes, dead in the water. The good news though, is that Trek had survived in literary form. Free from the need to remain consistent with multiple television shows, the books had the chance to go pretty much crazy. This was the era of the relaunches, which continued The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager beyond what we saw on screen. It also heralded the age of original novel series.

Redshirtsalwaysdie.com has added a new review for Chris Kreski and William Shatner‘s “Star Trek: Movie Memories”:
In the ever changing landscape of the Star Trek franchise, there stands a few constants that we as Trekkies can always count on. Captain Picard will always order “tea, Earl Grey, hot” from the food replicator (but not Admiral Picard). If given a choice a Vulcan will always choose logic over emotion, and every few years or so William Shatner will write another autobiography.

It’s almost time for the Evasive Manoeuvres exam at Starfleet Academy! That’s right, Star Trek: Picard’s Academy #3 is out now from IDW Publishing. With a nightmare group assignment, Jean-Luc needs to rely on more than just himself to pass. Compared to the publisher’s other Star Trek offerings, this series is a very different affair. Gone are the space battles, replaced with teenage angst and the sort of character drama that Star Trek has never explored before.

In general, I don’t like the world created by the Star Trek: Picard series (though I am happy to say I loved the soft reboot of Picard season three!), and I’m extra frustrated that the new continuity of the Picard show has destroyed the last two decades of continuity that had been developed in Simon & Schuster’s Star Trek novels.

Treklit.com has added a new review for Denny Martin Flinn‘s “Star Trek: 74 The Fearful Summons”:
I remember first reading this novel many years ago. I was a fairly new Star Trek fan, whose first Trek theatrical experience was watching Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country with my parents. I loved the film (even though I had a heck of a time properly pronouncing “Excelsior” while I gushed about all of the things I loved about the film to all who would listen). So when it was announced that a follow-up novel was coming out, written by one of the people credited with writing that wonderful sixth Trek film, I was ecstatic! While I don’t completely recall all of my thoughts upon reading it when it was first published, I do remember that it wasn’t exactly what I expected.

Shastrix.com has added a new review for Peter David‘s “Star Trek: The Next Generation: 10 A Rock And A Hard Place”:
Some of the edges still feel a bit raw, with elements of characterisation feeling enhanced upon what’s in the TV show. But then it’s Peter David, who is one of the great authors of this era of Trek, and who has definitely earned the right to expand the canon. I really liked the dynamic he adds between Troi and Riker – definitely feels like it’s leading up towards his later Imzadi novels.

“Star Trek: A Singular Destiny” Review by Atboundarysedge.com
Tags:Atboundarysedge.com, Keith R.A. DeCandido, New Book Review
Atboundarysedge.com has added a new review for Keith R.A. DeCandido‘s “Star Trek: A Singular Destiny”:
People often point to David Mack’s Destiny trilogy as the books that changed Star Trek. They have good reason to do so. Destiny was the series that folded together all of the storylines and characters, and most people would say it laid the foundations for what was to come next. I disagree slightly on that point. Destiny was an incredible trilogy, but it was more of an ending than a beginning. if the Litverse had ended then and there, there would have been broad agreement that it was a fitting end. It is Keith R. A. DeCandido’s A Singular Destiny (which, confusingly, bears the Destiny banner on the front page) that really put in motion everything that came next. This is, after all, the book that gives us the Typhon Pact.
