“Star Trek: The Next Generation: Triangle: Imzadi II” Review by Deepspacespines.com
Deepspacespines.com has added a new review for Peter David‘s “Star Trek: The Next Generation: Triangle: Imzadi II”:
In today’s episode, the moment Riker decides to stand up for his love is the same moment Worf takes a knee. But the love he hopes to proclaim might not be so undying when some old adversaries roll up to Betazed at the same time. How many of the padds that cross Picard’s desk are time cards? Can Deanna sense Data’s chip emotions? And is it really fair to compare this book to the first Imzadi? All this and more in Triangle: Imzadi II, the book that’s really more of a square, if you think about it.

Happy 2024 Birthday to Andy Mangels!
(no image available)
Happy birthday to Andy Mangels!
Andy Mangels is a writer of many Star Trek novels, in collaboration with Michael A. Martin. Although some of his novels feature the recurring homosexual character of Ranul Keru (ex-lover of Star Trek: First Contact’s Lt. Hawk), contrary to some claims, he is not the first Trek writer to place a homosexual character in a novel (see The Best and the Brightest by Susan Wright for a minor character, and the Star Trek: SCE series of eBooks). Keru is the first significantly-featured homosexual character in paper novels, however, and Mangels (an openly gay man) and Martin have consistently featured characters of a diverse sexuality, as well as diverse ethnicities, religious backgrounds, and physical abilities, in all of their works.

“Star Trek: The Original Series: Living Memory” Review by Treknews.net
Treknews.net has added a new review for Christopher L. Bennett‘s “Star Trek: The Original Series: Living Memory”:
Let’s cut to the chase: If you want to read one of the best Star Trek: The Original Series-era novels, then Christopher L. Bennet‘s Living Memory is for you. We were surprised at how much we enjoyed this delicately crafted science-fiction tale, in no small part because the story centers on Nyota Uhura, one of Star Trek’s most underutilized characters who is nonetheless ripe for discovery.

“Star Trek: Open a Channel: A Woman’s Trek” Review by Trekclivos79.blogspot.com
Trekclivos79.blogspot.com has added a new review for Nana Visitor‘s “Star Trek: Open a Channel: A Woman’s Trek”:
Perhaps hugely masculine but I thought this was a book about the characters and their appearances in the franchise. I was very wrong and should be scolded for such an unusually closed opinion. Open a Channel is likely to be seen as one of the most ground-breaking books in Star Trek literary history and rightly so. Encompassing every generation from The Cage right up to Strange New Worlds, Nana Visitor has taken an incredible deep dive into the very foundations of not just the Star Trek franchise but the fabric of Hollywood across the last 60 years.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Asylum” Review by Trekmovie.com
Trekmovie.com has added a new review for Una McCormack‘s “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Asylum”:
Little has been said in canon about the Starfleet Academy careers of Una Chin-Riley (a.k.a. “Number One,” a.k.a. “Numero Una” “Don’t call her that. No one called her that.”) and Captain Christopher Pike. In the Strange New Worlds episode “Ad Astra per Aspera” we learn that Una’s admission to the Academy was sponsored by Captain Robert April, and that she first met Christopher Pike when she challenged his facts following an inspiring speech he gave at the Academy. We also know (from “Lost in Translation”) that one of her Academy instructors was Pelia, who gave her a “well-deserved” C on her final paper for Starship Maintenance 307. We also know that by the time she was at the Academy, Una had already been long accustomed to hiding her background as an Illyrian, lying to April, Pike, and all of Starfleet, out of fear of being arrested and drummed out of the Fleet for violating the Federation’s laws against genetic modifications.

“Star Trek #26” Review by Aiptcomics.com
Aiptcomics.com has added a new review for Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing‘s “Star Trek #26”:
Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly’s run on Star Trek is unique in the way that it’s touched on nearly every era of Star Trek lore. It brought back Benjamin Sisko after the events of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, brought in characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, and even newer shows like Picard and Lower Decks. But Star Trek #26 tops them all by warping the U.S.S. Thesus to the Kelvin Timeline…aka where J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek takes place.

Sisko is stuck outside space-time on Bajor. He does not know if his crew and his family are alive or if his universe even exists beyond this plane. All Sisko knows is that he must stop Lore before everyone and everything he loves is destroyed forever. To do that, he must build the Orbs of Destiny. It all comes down to this. If there’s any hope for a future, the Prophets will reveal it now.
After the Day of Blood, Kahless II is a defeated, broken man who has but one path left: face himself. Thrown backward in time by the Time Crystals of Boreth, Kahless witnesses his own cruelty, hubris, and thirst for messianic power. When he comes face-to-face with himself as a young boy holding his father’s blade for the first time, Kahless must decide what a Klingon’s honor truly means.
Alexander has but one errand left on his Quv Rite: the Errand of Vengeance. In it, he must find the orchestrator of his dishonor, Kahless II… and kill him. But is a swift death the vengeance Alexander seeks? And is it the end his manipulator deserves?
Rutherford to bridge. We’re not dead! However, after escaping a vacuum collapse of the Alecto system, the U.S.S. Cerritos is lost inside a new space-time that’s expanding away from us in every direction at the speed of light. To make matters worse, an alien intelligence made of pure energy has possessed Tendi and my bodies, shunting our consciousnesses into the ship’s computer. While it’s a fun, flirty energy, we’d very much like our bodies back so we can pop the expanding time bubble and save our universe!

“Star Trek: Lower Decks – Warp Your Own Way” Review by Akotsko.substack.com
Akotsko.substack.com has added a new review for Ryan North‘s “Star Trek: Lower Decks – Warp Your Own Way”:
As a kid, I loved Choose Your Own Adventure novels—at least until I really, really didn’t. For a lonely, cerebral kid like me the concept was irresistible. I would get to escape into a story, but I would also be able to control the events! Something similar drew me to video games, but I gradually discovered that, like the earliest Nintendo games, CYOA books tended to be punitively difficult and maddeningly frustrating. No sooner had I worked my way to something interesting, finally, when I would invariably make some arbitrary error. Somehow I was just supposed to know that you shouldn’t mention the South Pole when time-traveling to the Middle Ages, or that saying “hi” rather than “hello” would lead to me getting pushed out the airlock. When my mom finally decided to defy my wishes and buy me a regular, linear novel at the book fair instead of yet another CYOA, I was initially annoyed, but I quickly learned the pleasures of a story that is carefully crafted not to kill the hero in dozens if not hundreds of random ways.

“Star Trek: Voyager: 16 Seven Of Nine” Review by Deepspacespines.com
Deepspacespines.com has added a new review for Christie Golden‘s “Star Trek: Voyager: 16 Seven Of Nine”:
In today’s episode, Voyager’s new friends cut through red tape like butter, and have good taste in air fresheners to boot. But when Seven comes down with a nasty case of Corvid-19, she’ll need her new feathered friends to help her defuse a nuclear truth bomb. Will the Doctor’s sleepy-time experiments get anyone killed this time? When will Starfleet get off its legalistic high horse? And who got here first: the books or the show? All this and more in Seven of Nine, the book that manages to not get anyone killed by sleeping on the job.

“Star Trek: The Next Generation: Headlong Flight” Review by Lessaccurategrandmother.blogspot.com
Lessaccurategrandmother.blogspot.com has added a new review for Dayton Ward‘s “Star Trek: The Next Generation: Headlong Flight”:
Parallel universes are, of course, an old standby of Star Trek in specific and popular science fiction in general. What can we learn by seeing the road untaken, other universes where people made different choices or things went different ways? This book sees the Enterprise-E returning to its mission of exploration, which eventually brings it into contact with the Enterprise-D from 2367… but an Enterprise-D from a reality where Picard died during the events of “The Best of Both Worlds, Part II” and Riker became captain; other differences include the continued existence of Tasha Yar, Pulaski still serving as CMO, and Wesley working as a civilian specialist on the Enterprise.

Beadle & Grimm Interview With StarTrekBookClub.com
Jon Ciccolini and Bill Rehor of Beadle & Grimm took an hour of their busy day to talk to me about their upcoming Star Trek Murder Mystery and Escape Room games that’s currently on Kickstarter for a surprisingly low price for a game that’s going to have an AR component and some form of participation from Star Trek: Picard actor Todd Stashwick.
I’ve never played a murder mystery table top game before, nor an escape room game, but the concept is super intriguing to me, so if you’re in the same boat, you may appreciate the naive questions, and if you’re already familiar with the concepts, I hope you find my ignorance endearing.
The murder mystery is set on the Titan-A whilst captained by Liam Shaw and you need to clear a character’s name while various murder related shenanigans are playing out through the game artifacts. You can use your phone to interact with the universe with an app and it has the ability to give hints if you get stuck in the narrative.
The escape room is set during Strange New Worlds and involves a ghost ship that you’re going to investigate and presumably escape from.
Both games are on the same Star Trek Kick-Starter and you get a heck of a discount if you buy them both at the same time, but you don’t have very long to make it happen, it’s closing this Friday on November 22nd!

Aiptcomics.com has added a new review for Ryan North‘s “Star Trek: Lower Decks #1”:
According to Ryan North, Star Trek: Lower Decks is the best Star Trek, and not just because he’s writing the new ongoing series launching this week. Given his clear sense of real science and comedy, he’s the perfect fit for this series, which is proven to be true once you finish the first issue. Armed with Derek Charm, who perfectly captures the visual style of the series, this first issue has more than enough to warrant a bandwagon uprising for the series.

Happy 2024 Birthday to Alan Dean Foster!
Happy birthday to Alan Dean Foster!
Alan Dean Foster is a prolific science fiction and fantasy author. He is credited with writing the story for what became Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Born in New York City, Foster went to the University of California, Los Angeles. He currently lives in Prescott, Arizona with his wife.
As a novelist, Foster wrote Ballantine Books’ line of Star Trek: The Animated Series novelizations, titled the Star Trek Logs, and a new, serialized essay on the writing of those Logs, which was included with the five 2006 trade paperback reprint omnibuses. He also wrote a number of the Star Trek stories released by Peter Pan Records. In 2009, Foster wrote the novelization for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. Foster also wrote an original novel based on the movie, Refugees, which is currently “on hold” following executive decisions at Pocket. He also wrote the novelization of the sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. Foster had the chance to watch the films before writing their novelizations, which according to Greg Cox is unheard of in the industry.
Foster’s best known works are his series of science fiction novels set in the Humanx Commonwealth, an interstellar union of species similar to the United Federation of Planets. He is also known for his novels featuring his two most popular characters, a young empath named Flinx and his companion, Pip. Foster’s most popular fantasy books are those of the Spellsinger series.
In addition, Foster is known for writing novelizations of many feature film screenplays. Among these is the novelization for the 2007 film Transformers and the sequel Revenge of the Fallen, which, like Star Trek, were based on screenplays by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Other film scripts he has novelized include Star Wars: Episodes IV – A New Hope and VII – The Force Awakens, the first three Alien films, John Carpenter’s The Thing, The Last Starfighter, Alien Nation, The Chronicles of Riddick, and Terminator: Salvation.

“Star Trek: Lower Decks – Warp Your Own Way” Review by Trekmovie.com
Trekmovie.com has added a new review for Ryan North‘s “Star Trek: Lower Decks – Warp Your Own Way”:
Growing up in the 1970s and 1980s, like most kids my age, I loved the “Choose Your Own Adventure” series of interactive novels and the various knockoffs that followed. In these books, young readers could put themselves into the shoes of the story’s protagonist, making decisions every two or three pages that affected how the tale unfolded. As the storylines branched out and became more complicated, many different endings could be discovered, and it was fun to go back to a previous branch, make a different choice, and see how the adventure would have turned out differently.

“Star Trek: Prey: Book 3: The Hall of Heroes” Review by Lessaccurategrandmother.blogspot.com
Lessaccurategrandmother.blogspot.com has added a new review for John Jackson Miller‘s “Star Trek: Prey: Book 3: The Hall of Heroes”:
Well, if you’ve been following my reviews of the Prey trilogy thus far, you’ll know it hasn’t set my world alight. Me on book 1: “But I wanted Picard, Riker, La Forge, and so on to do something interesting and clever, to figure something out. Hopefully that’s what books 2 and 3 are for.” On book 2: “This book feels like it’s treading water for the people in it, even as the plot is always getting more complicated… Miller writes in a way that’s fun and easy to read, I never dreaded this book or anything, but it doesn’t feel like it has enough of a point to be three novels.”

“Star Trek: Voyager: Pathways” Review by Deepspacespines.com
Deepspacespines.com has added a new review for Jeri Taylor‘s “Star Trek: Voyager: Pathways”:
In today’s episode, “stories from camp” takes on a whole new meaning when several senior crew members find themselves laboring for some harsh captors. But finding a way out will put all their “looking like they’re working” skills to the test. Who spins the best fireside yarn? Can Starfleet Academy really make you participate in a sport? And what would Kes have had to do to make Neelix not be attracted to her? All this and more in Pathways, the book that connects the dots between Tom Paris and Pepe Silvia.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Asylum” Review by Treknews.net
Treknews.net has added a new review for Una McCormack‘s “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Asylum”:
The reintroduction of Una Chin-Riley – the original Number One first seen in Star Trek‘s very first episode – in modern Trek thanks to Star Trek: Discovery was a highlight of that show’s second season. Una, played by Rebecca Romijn, continued to endear herself to viewers in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and now has, in our opinion, become an invaluable element of that show’s success. It makes sense, then, that the genetically modified Illyrian takes center stage in what’s the second novel based on Strange New Worlds (despite what the book’s cover suggests). But does this story serve the character faithfully?

Happy birthday to Armin Shimerman!
Armin Shimerman is the actor who was best known in the Star Trek universe for his portrayal of the Ferengi bartender Quark on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He is one of only six actors to appear in three different live action Star Trek series (The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager) as the same character. Prior to assuming the role of Quark, however, Shimerman earned the distinction of being among the first to ever portray a Ferengi in the Star Trek franchise when the race first appeared in the Next Generation episode “The Last Outpost”. Shimerman went on to make two more appearances on TNG (including a second time as a Ferengi in the episode “Peak Performance”) and to star on Deep Space Nine for its entire seven-year run (1993 – 1999). He also co-wrote the Trek novel The 34th Rule.

When Una Chin-Riley and Christopher Pike meet at Starfleet Academy after one of his lectures, they immediately become friends. A stellar student, Una is the “poster girl” of her class, and Pike is determined to become a Starfleet captain with his own ship, rhetorically assembling his dream crew. As their friendship evolves, Pike also suspects Una is involved with the Euxhana, a Chionian cultural minority, who are seeking asylum in Federation space, leading to more questions than answers.
Twenty-five years later, Una and Pike are working together on the USS Enterprise to settle a Chionian trade agreement when a pro-Euxhana saboteur launches a terrorist attack. When the suspect is taken into custody for interrogation and is discovered to have a history with Una, her past associations resurface, threatening to expose a secret she’s been harboring all these years…

IDW November 2024 Catalog
Lore has destroyed the multiverse, and its fate now lies in Benjamin Sisko’s hands. But after the U.S.S. Theseus slingshots into the Celestial Temple, Sisko finds himself without his crew…or any technology…on a Bronze-age Bajor. The ancient Bajorans don’t know what to make of him: Is he a terrifying threat or the prophet they’ve been waiting for? If Sisko is to save life itself from the Orb of Destruction, he must first save himself…
Alexander’s cha’DIch Worf has tasked him with a near-impossible task for his Errand of Valor: rescue the workers rebelling against a deuterium mega-power, Archanis Inter-Corporate. He must fight selflessly in the name of the helpless… even if it costs him his life. If that weren’t enough of a challenge, a face from Alexander’s bloody past appears to test where his heart truly lies. Meanwhile, in the minefield of the Alpha Quadrant, Ro, B’Elanna, and O’Brien find themselves in a stalemate between the Cardassians and Section 31 that could end explosively.
The crew of the USS Cerritos have just received their personality guidance reports from the counselors of the planet Clarew, and Rutherford feels guilty he’s not engineering at a higher capacity with his implants. He should be operating above 134 percent nominal at least. The Cerritos’ next mission is a supply run to Tavela Minor, but they first need to stop by the Alecto system to get some supplies to, uh, supply them with. However, just before they warp, they see the Alecto system isn’t only missing; it doesn’t exist. Like at all. Now they have a space mystery at hand: What could cause a whole star system to disappear?
From the pen of Alyssa Wong (Spirit World, Doctor Aphra) and the brush of Megan Levens (Star Trek) comes the exciting single-issue spin-off of the forthcoming Star Trek: Section 31 movie! The issue features Emperor Philippa Georgiou on a brand-new, raucous, and exhilarating adventure.

“Star Trek: The Next Generation: 9 A Call To Darkness” Review by Themindreels.com
Themindreels.com has added a new review for Michael Jan Friedman‘s “Star Trek: The Next Generation: 9 A Call To Darkness”:
We’re still early into The Next Generation novel series, this is only the ninth in the series. Set in the second season, while the third season was just getting underway on television, the book had to be written while the second season was in production. And that means not everything was going to work as viewers and authors were still getting used to all the characters and the storytelling style, which the series hadn’t quite found yet.

New Star Trek Book: “It Rhymes With Takei”
It Rhymes With Takei by George Takei has been added to the Star Trek Book Club!
Following the award-winning bestseller They Called Us Enemy, George Takei’s new full-color graphic memoir reveals his most personal story of all—told in full for the first time anywhere!
George Takei has shown the world many faces: actor, author, outspoken activist, helmsman of the starship Enterprise, living witness to the internment of Japanese Americans, and king of social media. But until October 27, 2005, there was always one piece missing—one face he did not show the world. There was one very intimate fact about George that he never shared… and it rhymes with Takei.
Now, for the first time ever, George shares the full story of his life in the closet, his decision to come out as gay at the age of 68, and the way that moment transformed everything. Following the phenomenal success of his first graphic memoir, They Called Us Enemy, George Takei reunites with the team of Harmony Becker, Steven Scott, and Justin Eisinger, now joined by the award-winning colorist José Villarrubia, for a jaw-dropping new testament. From his earliest childhood crushes and youthful experiments in the rigidly conformist 1950s, to global fame as an actor and the paralyzing fear of exposure, to the watershed moment of speaking his truth and becoming one of the most high-profile gay men on the planet, It Rhymes With Takei presents a sweeping portrait of one iconic American navigating the tides of LGBTQ+ history.
Combining historical context with intimate subjectivity, It Rhymes With Takei shows how the personal and the political have always been intertwined. Its richly emotional words and images depict the terror of entrapment even in gay community spaces, the anguish of speaking up for so many issues while remaining silent on his most personal issue, the grief of losing friends to AIDS, the joy of finding true love with Brad Altman, and the determination to declare that love openly—and legally—before the whole world.
Looking back on his own astonishing life on both sides of the closet, George Takei presents a charismatic and candid witness to how far America has come… and how precious that progress is. — a 328-page, full-color, HARDCOVER graphic novel with 3″ French flaps, 6.5″ x 9″
The book is currently scheduled to be published on June 1, 2024

Una McCormack Interview With StarTrekBookClub.com
I start off my conversation with Una McCormack with a mutual admiration for time shenanigans, then we move on to talk about the audio adaptation of her upcoming book “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Asylum” and features “Una by Una”, which is a clever way of saying that this is the first time that Una McCormack has written a story specifically for Una Chin-Riley, the first officer of the Enterprise under Captain Pike. The story features multiple types of sentient alien cats, linguistic shenanigans, and a student production of The Mikado!
We have a great conversation about the origins of the story and how it changed from the initial concept to what we’re about to read and how the various strikes effected the final outcome, then briefly talk about how fun it is to be writing a character that’s been named after you. Una says Una (the character) is an onion with a solid but complicated relationship with Pike and they rely on each other in a wonderful way.
We then talk about her work in the Doctor Who franchise and the fantastic audio series that has hundreds upon hundreds of entries from “Big Finish”, something that we both feel Trek could learn and benefit from.
I ask her about the Weird Universe book series, it was started by Eric Brown and she’s written two of the four books in the series. It has a cool concept that I think I’d like to eventually check out.
Una McCormack can be found at her website, Mastodon, and Twitter

The new logo will begin appearing on all IDW Publishing releases starting in 2025.
